Distribution Maps

Parks and Public Land Maps
The basic map units for Just a Minute are map tiles, each with dimensions 44.5 x 33.5 km and displaying all Victorian public land, national parks, state parks, regional parks, reference areas and nature conservation reserves.

There are 1225 map tiles, each overlapping with its neighbours by 50%.  You may move from on to the other by means of navigation arrows on the north, south, east and west sides of the maps or by clicking on the small, location map.

Plotting Distribution Maps
When you wish to plot the distribution of any species in the database, two maps get created.

The first is a simple outline of Victoria with one-minute grid locations displayed in red.  This map - usually located at the top left corner of the map - will also have a transparent yellow rectangle displayed which represents the location of the current map tile.  This map is intended to show the complete distribution range of any species across the state.

The second map is a 1:100,000 map tile showing all one-minute grid records within that area.  In some cases a single map tile will show almost the entire distribution of some restricted species - such as the tree Angophora floribunda (see upper right).  In cases where the species is widespread - such as the Red-rumped Parrot (see lower right) - you may move from tile to tile while investigating detailed local distribution.  In either case you may magnify the tiles for a closer look.

Both state-wide and local maps can be printed or exported as Windows Metafiles.
