Individual EVC Maps - 1:250,000
These maps can be accessed via the Vegetation of Greater Melbourne option.  Each map is an outline of the coastline of Greater Melbourne with the area occupied by each of 60 Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVCs) plotted in red.

Each map is accompanied by one or more photographs of the EVC (taken in the area) and a description of its structure, environment, species composition, disturbance regime and conservation status.

These maps are individualised components of the 1:100,000 vegetation map tiles.  Their advantage is that you can examine the full distribution of each vegetation class at a glance and get some idea of the area it occupies and the degree of fragmentation.

Their disadvantage is that you cannot easily see the exact locations of each EVC with respect to other EVCs and to reference points in the Melbourne area (e.g. roads, rivers, lakes, towns etc).

The strong pros and cons of the two approaches to mapping vegetation are the reasons for including both in Wild Things of Greater Melbourne.
