Search
for all Species in an Area
Finding every animal or plant species in an area that you specify is one
of the major high-speed functions for Wild Plants and Animals, and the
process is a very simple one.
Select a Map Theme
You may choose any of the maps in the Map Library
to carry out your search. Which one is most useful will be dependent
on the kind of area you are interested in. For example, if you want
to find all species in the general area of the Grampians National Park
then
the Parks and Public Land map will be the best. Similarly the
Topographic or the Bioregion maps will be useful for searches
related to them. You may, however, just want to know the species
which are close to a particular town in which case the Minor Roads and
Towns map is the best.
Define the area to search
Click the Select
Grid option, move the cursor to the area you want to search, then
click the left mouse button. This will draw a 10-minute grid on the
map. You may then repeat this process as many times as you like
until the entire area you want to search is covered.
Create a list of all species in the
search area
This is done with a single mouse click after which a full list of all
species in the area will be displayed. You may then export that
list, display text and pictures for any species, filter the list on any
characteristics or do anything that can be done with the full species
list.
