| The
quarry, or prey, of the net-casting spider is any flying
insect that is small enough to kill and close enough to catch in
its extraordinary web.
Unlike other web-making spiders,
the net-caster doesn't sit in its web but holds it between four of
its legs. The web is made up of a rectangle of strong silk
which is interspersed with strands of a special coiled,
springy silk. When potential prey comes close enough to the
stick-like spider, it will cast the expandable web like a net and
trap the insect in its sticky coils. After capture the
insect is wrapped in ordinary silk and immobilised with a bite.
