Upright Water Milfoil
Upright Water Milfoil - Myriophyllum crispatum

Uu

The Upright Water Milfoil is one of a range of specialist wetland plants which live in temporary or permanent freshwater swamps and ponds throughout the temperate parts of Australia.

Water milfoil leaves grow above and below the water surface.  The submerged leaves are usually much finer and more divided to help them extract oxygen from the water.

The common name of milfoil comes from the words mille - meaning 1000 and foil - meaning leaf, a reference to the very large numbers of fine leaves.
