Wattle
Golden Wattle - Acacia pycnantha

Ww

There are more types of wattle in Australia than any other group of plants. They are found in all ecosystems from the coast to the alps to the desert and they are often the most abundant plants in each area.

The Golden Wattle is one of the most widespread wattles and is Australia's floral emblem.

In the time before white settlers Golden Wattles (and other similar species) were used by Koories in a variety of ways. For example, the plant releases a sticky gum from wounds in the bark and this was collected to make a chewy food or mixed with water to make sweet drinks. The gum was also useful as a glue for attaching spearheads to their shafts.
