WaX-berry
Wax-berry - Gaultheria appressa

Xx

There are no native plants in Victoria with common names that begin with 'X' so we have chosen one with an 'x' in the name. The Wax-berry is a shrub that grows in the high country of Victoria and New South Wales where snow falls, at least some of the time, each winter.

Its name comes from the beautiful, rounded white berries which have a very waxy appearance. The appearance, however, didn't deter the Koories that lived in the high country who used to harvest the sweet fruit in late summer when they were ripe. Today the main harvesters of the fruit are forest birds and mammals.
