| We probably know most of the mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs that live in Australia, but it is certain that there are some still waiting to be discovered. Less than 20 years have passed since the
Southern Ninguai was discovered and many of Australia's lizards have been known for less time than that. In addition, every few years another species of bird finds its way to our shores, although they don't necessarily stay for very long.
It was only a very short time ago
that a new species of Mountain Possum
was found in vegetation very much like that in the
photograph.
So somewhere out there in the bush, perhaps in a place like this scene from
an Australian Wet Forest, there is a new species of animal waiting (or perhaps not) to be discovered.
