Not all frogs spend all of their time in the water, tree frogs are often found away from streams and ponds and many species are excellent climbers (as the name suggests). Verreaux's (pronounced 'verrows') Tree Frog, however, is a species that doesn't climb very well and it is usually found on the ground near to water.
The animal in the picture is on a bed of moss in a swampy heathland from near the coast. There is another form of this species which is usually found in the high country and it has green markings instead of pale brown."
Whether they are good climbers or not, however, nearly all frogs, of course, must find water to breed so that they can lay eggs which will hatch into tadpoles.
