Yellow Robin
Eastern Yellow Robin - Eopsaltria australis

Yy

Yellow is an important colour in the Australian bush. It is the colour of the flowers of most of the wattles and eucalypts, trees and shrubs which dominate the landscape, as well as those of many other herb and shrub species. It is not surprising, therefore to find that some of the most widespread and abundant animal species have yellow in their colouring and also in their name.

The Eastern Yellow Robin is one of the commonest birds in the forests of eastern Australia, it is also one of the most cheeky. If you live in the country, near to a forest, it is not uncommon for a Yellow Robin to follow you around if you are digging the garden. As soon as you stop digging the robin will hop onto the ground and search around the disturbed soil for a grub or other small animal to eat. When the robin has eaten it will fly away, but not too far, so you can continue to help it find food. Yellow Robins will sometimes do the same thing with Lyrebirds as they scratch around the forest floor looking for their own food.
