Image Layout

There are three basic image layouts:

Single photographs: These show a single photograph of a live plant or animal. These may show the whole of the organism or an important part, such as a flower or an animal head.  Most of these images are available in small, medium, intermediate and large sizes.

Multiple photographs: These are mostly of plants where a display of different parts of the organism is important for identification.  In these images there are between two and seven individual photographs showing features such as flowers, fruit, leaves, whole plants, bark and so on. About 40%% of these images are available in small and medium sizes only while about 60% are also available as intermediate and large images.

Photographs of specimens: These are mostly of butterflies which have been set and pinned for museum collections.  Most images show both males and females (males always on the left) and upper and lower sides (upper side always at the top of the image).  On each specimen images there is a scale represented by a horizontal black line,1 cm long.  All of these images are available in small, medium, intermediate and large sizes.
