Land Use Maps - 1:100,000 There are 49 map tiles, each overlapping with its neighbours by 50%. You may move from one to another by means of navigation arrows on the north, south, east and west sides of the maps or by clicking on the small, location map. When you wish to plot the distribution of any species on these maps, two maps get created. The first is an outline of the Melbourne area with one-minute grid locations displayed in red. This map - located at the top left corner of the display - will also have a transparent yellow rectangle displayed which represents the location of the current map tile. This map shows the distribution of any species across the region. The second map is a 1:100,000 map tile showing all one-minute grid records within that area. In some cases a single map tile will show almost the entire distribution of some restricted species - such as the shrub Grevillea barkleyana. In cases where the species is more widespread - such as the Southern Bullfrog - you may move from tile to tile while investigating detailed local distribution. In either case you may magnify the tiles for a closer look. Both region-wide and local maps can be printed or exported as Windows Metafiles.
