Searching with 10 minute Grids
The example below shows how you can search an area (in this case the City of Bendigo) using simply point-and-click procedures.  The screen grabs here are from the desktop version of Wild Plants of Victoria but the web-based version works in much the same manner. .

The purpose of the search is to get a complete list of all plant or animal species in the area.  After that has been achieved you may look at photographs and descriptions of each.  You may plot the state-wide distribution of any species in the list.  You may refine the list by filtering out, for example, only those species which are rare, or only orchids, or only plants which flower in January, or any other filter characteristic (for animals these may also include breeding season, major animal group or broad diet).

 
Choose a general region
Start with a 1:1,000,000 scale map of Victoria with Land Use theme.  Click on the map to select a general area that you want to search.
 
Choose a specific area
A higher solution version of the map will load so that you may determine your search area more precisely.   
Set the search area
Selecting the search area by clicking on the map so that a grid is displayed.  You may select more than one grid to cover your area.

Make a List
Click the make-a-list button and the names of all species in the search area will be displayed. 
View individual species
Any species in the list can be highlighted to display a description and a photograph. 
Export or print the list
The entire list (or a filtered subset) can be sent to a printer or saved for later use.
